Project Summary and Scope
The Shockoe Revitalization Strategy completed in 2011 created priority projects for the revitalization of Shockoe Bottom. Main St. Station, already in motion, was the number one project priority. The revitalization of the 17th St. Market Plaza was the top new project. Funding was requested to begin the community collaboration and the conceptual design for this project. The project sought community input first, design followed. The plaza will be renovated to become a pedestrian mall with a bike way connector to the Virginia Capital Trail with outdoor dining aligning the adjacent store fronts.
Through Community Collaboration, the design for the 17th St. Market was established. Baskervill Architects were hired with Project for Public Spaces.
